“Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.”
Chris Weetman FPFS, CFP
Chartered Financial Planner
Financial Planning Administrator
Financial Planning Administrator
Chris has been married to Jo for almost 20 years and they have three children, Archie, Poppy and Hattie who, together with Bella, a one year old Cocker Spaniel, make sure there’s never a dull moment! Outside of work and family, Chris enjoys watching football, running, fishing, golf and learning to play the guitar.
“For 25 years, as an employee of some of the biggest names in banking and insurance in the UK, I’d seen financial services companies move from being a valued part of the community to viewing their customers as a source of greater ‘share of wallet’, where it wasn’t important to help and protect them, simply to sell them more and more products. I found this a very frustrating place to be and was determined to offer something different to my clients.
I created Otus because I am determined to give clients a genuinely personal service; a long-term relationship based on trust and understanding.
My aim is to help you identify, create and maintain the lifestyle you want for you and your family; so you can get on with living your chosen life right now and never have to worry about money.
Our services include everything that you would expect from great financial advisers, but we give you more: More of our time.
We take you on a journey of discovery and show you how your finances can really work for you and what is possible.”
Chris was educated at Wolstanton Grammar School and holds Honours Degree level qualifications from the Personal Finance Society. He is Managing Director of Otus Financial Planning and has worked in the Financial Services sector for over 30 years.
The underlying theme to his approach to financial planning is to help clients decide how they want to spend the rest of their lives, to agree planning assumptions related to the likely cost of that lifestyle and then to help them prepare a plan which, when implemented, will make the best use of their resources towards the achievement of their objectives. Typically, this involves helping them with investment planning, minimising tax and risk management.
He is happy to work with his clients’ other professional advisers, as well as providing access to Trusted Partners in all areas of personal and corporate financial planning who have been specially selected for their expertise and focus on client service.
Chris is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Financial Planner. He has also been awarded the Certified Financial PlannerTM designation from The Institute of Financial Planning. These qualifications mean that Chris is in the top 3% of financial advisers and planners in the UK today.
Charlene lives in Cheshire with her husband, their 2 high-school aged sons and their family dog. Between family life, working at Otus and studying for her exams, Charlene likes to find time for fitness training, quizzes, playing percussion in a symphony orchestra and tap dancing. In 2016 Charlene was part of a team, along with Jo Weetman and Corinne Edwards, who raised over £5,000 for Alzheimers Research UK by successfully completing the Three Peaks in 24 hours Challenge.
Charlene joined Otus in 2012 bringing valuable capability and capacity to the administration team. Since then she has become the driving force of our back office and continues to grow her role and her knowledge of Financial Services.
“I’m incredibly proud to be part of the Otus team and the support that is given to our clients. I’ve always believed that organisations of all sizes are only as effective as their back-office team and at Otus we strive to be one of the best. Our focus on personal service and attention to detail ensures we place our client’s satisfaction at the heart of what we do – clients come first. Otus supports me in my studies towards industry certification and it’s really satisfying to build my knowledge of Financial Services and apply that to support our clients.”
Having been married for over 28 years, Dave has 2 grown up children, both of whom have ‘flown the nest’. This gives Dave time to indulge in his favourite pastimes of photography, smart technology and travel without too much outside interference!
Leaving retail banking in the early part of 2016, after a career of over 30 years (20 as a bank manager), to join Otus, Dave brings with him vast experience of managing key client relationships on a one to one basis, along with a keen awareness of the UK financial services arena and the regulatory framework which underpins it.
“For me, High Street banks have started to offer a less personal service in recent times, with a focus more towards pushing product sales and offering irrelevant and inappropriate services. When Chris offered me the opportunity to join Otus, where he is committed to offering bespoke solutions to individual client requirements, I could not wait to join the team. My aim is to help Chris achieve his business objectives and his clients achieve their goals.”
